How Can My Photos Work for Me?

Photoshoots may seem like an entire production, but they don’t have to be stressful. Capture quality photos by creating a photoshoot that suits you. Let’s take a look at our key ways to have your session run smoothly.

Have Inspiration Ready

Take the time to find inspiration before the photoshoot! Whether it be browsing Pinterest or various photography blogs, spend some time deciding what catches your eye. Create a mood board or even take screenshots of your vision to remember for later. Whatever way you slice it, find inspiration. This will create less stress during your photoshoot because you’ll be able to share your vision with the photographer and have a sense of direction.

Be Mindful of Location & Date

If your vision is outdoors, consider the unpredictable nature of weather! Keep an eye on the forecast and understand the need for shade when shooting. Lighting can be a challenge when outside and depending on the time of day, so inquire with your photographer about the best time of day to shoot. If you want an indoor shoot, the options are endless. From your workplace or home to the photography studio, the only task will be picking a date. It’s important to keep in mind that you’ll have to give your photographer time to comb through and edit your photos too, so pick a date that won’t rush anyone.

Who & What Needs to Be There

If this isn’t a solo shoot, have all of the subjects prepared. Coordinate any outfits, confirm availability, and discuss any props that need to be present at the photoshoot. With certain visions, vendors such as makeup artists or stylists will be needed. Have them scheduled and ready for the day of the shoot with plenty of notice.

Give Yourself Time

In most situations, being rushed isn’t ideal. Make sure to give your photographer ample amount of time during the shoot to capture a quality set of images. Getting a variety of shots is always the priority, so plan ahead and pencil in a bit longer than you might think you need. It’s always better to have too much time than not enough.
