Stu is pretty cool. He's a social worker and a comedian and writes a pretty mean blog as well. He's been doing the comedy thing for a while now and has gotten pretty good at it. Not just at telling jokes but working the whole comedy system, from traveling and performing to writing about LaughFest on Mlive, going to shows to network with other comedians, hosting his own comedy show, emceeing at Grin's Comedy Club...Stu knows the hustle and has put in a lot of work.
But it's about more than just making a name for himself as a comedian, it's about enriching the community and helping others succeed as well. LaughFest, which Stu has been involved in from its first year, has not only given Grand Rapids something to look forward to at the dreariest time of year, but has given stage time to brand new comedians, exposed the community to different forms of comedy, bolstered the economy, and has shone a spotlight on Gilda's Club and the care they provide to those affected by cancer. It goes well beyond seriously funny.
I was able to photograph Stu at Gilda's Club while on assignment for Grand Rapids Magazine. Hope you enjoy the photos.
