One of the benefits of being a photojournalist was shooting everything, all the time. Sports, spot news, and among other things, food. Now that I'm mostly in the editorial and commercial space, I don't get as much opportunity to shoot food like I used to. Working with Rick Muschiana and Patrick Conrade, owner and chef of The Sovengard, for a Rapid Growth Media article made me miss my photojournalist days and constantly being in the middle of the action (and food).
We met at Tiffany's house (her kitchen served as a beautiful backdrop for the shoot), and as I walked through the door, I was immediately welcomed by the mouth-watering smells of roast pork chops in cherrjus pan sauce, steaming beef and root vegetable pies, Smorrebrod, or Danish open sandwich, with kabocha squash, venison and chili-kumquat marmalade among other things. The guys were just finishing up preparations on the food, and I couldn't have been more excited for a photoshoot. They worked, I photographed, and then we feasted. Oh, to have more days like this.
