Seriously funny. That's the tagline for LaughFest and the festival's main goal: to promote a healthy community through laughter. Started by Gilda's Club as a way to raise awareness of the value of emotional health, it also shows that, even though their organization deals with the emotional side of grief and cancer, it isn't all tears and sadness. There is laughter, too.
Joanne Roehm is the lucky lady who gets to spearhead LaughFest. As the festival's director, her entire year is dedicated to planning, organizing, meeting, finding volunteers and sponsors, budgeting, and figuring out all the logistics for the 10-day event. An entire year of planning for just 10 days! But that's what it takes to create such a successful, large-scale festival, and when working for a non-profit, resources can be very limited. Though they may be small, the team at Gilda's Club is very tight-knit, dedicated, and invested.
I had the pleasure of photographing Joanne while on assignment for Rapid Growth Media. The sunshine and wildflower garden made for very fun, delightful photos.
